Berbice name strong under-19 squad in quest for title

Lovell, Ramsammy to add to Essequibo’s strength

As they seek to dethrone reigning champions, Demerara, the Berbice selectors recently announced a strong unit to participate in the upcoming GCB/Hand-In-Hand Insurance Inter-county cricket tournament, with optimism of securing the title.

The squad comprises of talented all-rounder, Kevin Sinclair and stylish batsman, Steve Deonarine who were both members of the victorious Guyana U-15 team that captured that Regional title in Jamaica in 2014.

In addition, fast bowler, Sylus Tyndall who was part of Guyana U-19 team that won the 2016 Regional U-19 50-over title is named on the squad.

Several other players with experience from being a part of international tournaments are also included in the squad.

Steve Deonarine

The 50 over segment of the tournament bowls off on Monday with Berbice facing Essequibo at Everest Cricket Club ground while Demerara will take on the National U-17 select squat at Eve Leary.

Meanwhile, talented national middle order batsman, Kurt Lovell will make his first appearance for Essequibo. His decision to play for Essequibo is one that is expected the strengthen Essequibo’s middle order, making them a more competitive side.

Joining Lovell in Essequibo line up is another talented player, all-rounder Mark Ramsammy, who has proven to be very effective whenever he donned his playing garments for Demerara.

The Cinderella County is projected to have a positive tournament with the inclusion of some new faces in its squad. The full Berbice squad reads – Adrian Sukwah, Kevin Sinclair, Sasenarine Sukhoo, Vermootoo Senwason, Javid Karim, Matthew Hardyal, Daniel Samaroo, Emmanuel Seecharran, Karan Arjpaul, Keith Simpson, Deon Sinclair, Sylus Tyndall, Raymond Vankenic, Steve Deonarine, Michael Newland (Manager) and Adrian Amsterdam (Coach).
