Bicycle thief jailed for 36 months

Paul Sargeant was on Friday sentenced to 36 months in jail after admitting guilt in a simple larceny charge before City Magistrate Judy Latchman.

entered the premises of Shem Wilson and stole one bicycle and a gold chain, together valued at $65,000.

He told the court in answer to the magistrate’s question: “I needed a bicycle, that’s why I stole it…”

Magistrate Latchman has advised Sargeant that in future he should work in order to purchase items he needs, instead of resorting to stealing them.
