Bus conductor remanded for robbing local Jazz musician

– at Kitty seawall

A 25-year-old bus conductor was on Wednesday morning charged and remanded to the Camp Street prison for an armed robbery committed at the Kitty seawall.
Eon Warrel pleaded not guilty to the charge read by Magistrate Fabayo Azore, which stated that on April 3, 2017, while armed with a cutlass, he relieved local musician Jeremy Sobers of an iPhone worth $90,000.
Prosecutor Simone Payne did not hesitate to object to bail being granted, emphasising the seriousness and prevalence of the particular felony.
The defence counsel for the accused, in a bail application, pointed out the uncertainty of Police’s facts as a reason to grant bail. The lawyer added that her client was not singled out by the Virtual Complainant during an identification parade, but rather, in a public place – the Georgetown Public Hospital, and this led Police officials to caution and arrest Warrel for an offence of which he was totally ignorant.
The court heard that the conductor had a previous matter at the Providence Magistrate’s Court. However, he was never convicted as the case was dismissed.
Bail was denied. Warrel will remain incarcerated until the completion of the trial. The matter stands adjourned to April 19.
Meanwhile, a traumatised Sobers is nursing a gash to his head sustained during the armed robbery.
