On Saturday, November 11, Phoenix Karate formerly ‘Central Shotokan Karate-do Association’ saw history being made, and the beginning of a new chapter with high expectations ahead as they completed their last grading examinations for the year.
In all, there were 31 karateka that were graded, three of which attained the ranks of First Dan. The dojo’s successful first Dan students are also some of the first to have joined the fairly new dojo. Three other students also skipped ranks.

The exams were conducted by Shuseki Shihan, Frank Woon-A-Tai, M.S. at the Georgetown Cricket Club Pavilion. Master Woon-A-Tai was in Guyana to conduct the third and final grading examinations for the year at all of the IKD member dojos. He was assisted by Sensei Eric Hing and Senpai Michael Hing.
Promotions were as follows:
10kyu (white) to 8kyu (yellow) – Jared Smith, Daniel Grant, Daniel Singh, Mia Bailey, Meshach Keiler, Tyrique Haywood, Jaden Bacchus (Skipped 10kyu to 7kyu (Orange).
7kyu (Orange) to 6kyu (green) – Aiden Lovell, Chad Lovell, Gabriel Lewis, Uthan Henry (Skipped 7kyu to 5kyu (blue).

6kyu (green) to 5kyu (blue) – Raphael Ali, Jamacy Holder, Kellon Barkoy, Mortimer Duke, Lucas Alencar (Skipped 6kyu to 4kyu (purple).
5kyu (blue) to 4kyu (purple) – Nicholas Alencar, Darrel Smith, Nathaniel Singh.
4kyu (purple) to 3kyu (brown) – Lataliya Norton.
3kyu (brown) to 2kyu (brown) – Daniel Cameron, Che Talbot, Reilon Smith, Keron Prescod.
2kyu (brown) to 1kyu (brown) – Ayden Doris, Kyle Couchman, Shane Sargeant
1kyu (brown) to 1Dan (black) – Aniyah Couchman, Ruel Norton and Kayla Richards.
The next grading examinations will be held in March 2018.
