A miner was on Sunday evening fatally stabbed during an argument at Sand Hills, Puruni Area, Region Seven (Cuyuni-Mazaruni).
The name of the deceased was not immediately available, but Guyana Times understands that he hailed from Bartica. Information reaching this newspaper stated that the deceased and another man were consuming alcohol and an argument ensued.
The argument quickly escalated into an altercation during which the suspect, armed with a sharp object, dealt the man several blows to the body.
The injured man collapsed and died immediately. The suspect reportedly fled the scene, but persons in the area went in pursuit of him. When contacted, Senior Superintendent Ravindradat Budhram, Commander of F Division (Lethem-Interior Locations) told Guyana Times that a team of investigators was deployed to the area on Monday morning.
However, up to late Monday evening, the body was being transported to Bartica. As a result of the mountainous landscape of the area, telephone contact was quite difficult and as such, he could not confirm if the suspect was apprehended.
The Commander added that the suspect was a well-known individual in the area and he was confident that the Police would track him down.
