Neighbours in court for threatening behaviour

Luck was on the side of Haimwant Chaitdar of Columbia village on the Essequibo Coast when his neighbour’s plea saved him from six months’ imprisonment.

The teenager made his first appearance before Magistrate Dylon Bess at the Suddie Magistrate’s Court, where he pleaded guilty to a threatening behaviour charge.

The charge stated that on January 7, 2017, he made use of threatening behaviour towards his neighbour, Mohanie Sham.

The Magistrate asked Chaitdar to explain the events of the day in question.

The young man then apologised and said it was a misunderstanding.

Sham, who was present in court, told Magistrate Bess that she would like to end the matter, a decision which she made of her own free will.

Magistrate Bess then told the teenager to regard his neighbour as an angel, since she saved him from six months imprisonment.

He, however, cautioned him not to commit the same offence again.
