North East La Penitence sends Sparta Boss packing

North East La Penitence pulled the most the stunning upset in the Ministry of Public Health/Petra Organisation/Busta Soft Shoe Football Tournament when they defeated defending champions and favourites, Sparta Boss 2-0 on penalty kicks Thursday evening.

Playing at the Santos Training Ground, Brickdam, the feature match of the night ended 2-2 after some exciting battles.

Sparta was the first to score when Gregory Richardson hit the back of the net in the 10th minute and that looked to be the match winning goal until Devon Charles levelled the scores in the dying minutes that sent the match into extra time.

With the growing, crowd support, the North East La Penitence team grew in confidence, and Alwin Moore scored once more in the 32nd to create panic in the Sparta Boss camp but Richardson restored hope when he scored his second in the 35th.

In the other match, Tucville won 3-2 on penalty kicks after goalless battle with Broad Street.

The finals are slated for Sunday and the Ministry of Education Ground, Carifesta where Tucville clash with North East La Penitence for Championship honours while Sparta Boss face Broad Street in the third place play-off.

The winner of the event will collect $300,000 and the championship trophy while the second placed side will receive $200,000 and the runners-up accolade.

On the other hand, the third placed side will receive $100,000 and the respective trophy while the fourth place finishers will pocket $75,000 and the corresponding title.

On the individual side, prizes will be awarded to the event’s Most Valuable Player (MVP) and Highest Goal Scorer.
