Pizza Hut destroy Lady Bugs 8-1

As the fourth night of play of the Guyana Hockey Board, GTT Indoor Hockey Tournament continued at the National Gymnasium on Thursday, Old Fort and GCC both had mixed nights across the four divisions and six matches.

In the second Division, two matches were played with GCC Pitbulls beating St. Stanislaus College 3-1 and Saints thumping Phoenix 6-0.
In the first match up, at the end of the first half it was anyone’s game with the scores locked 1-1 as Samuel Woodroffe in the 4th minute and Robert Fernandes two minutes later scored for Pitbulls and St. St. Stanislaus college respectively but two goals in the second half from Trevon Smith in the 17th and 19th minute (17’ and 19’) to sink the school based team.
Trevon Smith scored twice in the second half for GCC while Robert Fernandes was the lone scorer for St. Stanislaus College.
However, the second team from the school had a better outing, ensuring Phoenix remained winless in the competition compliments of doubles from Yonnick Peters (12’ and 13’) in the first half and Parmanand Dindial (18’ and 21’). Ato Greene (22’) and Joel Hunte (23’) were the other scorers for Saints.
In the female matches, Pizza Hut GCC swept eight goals as Old Fort Lady Bugs struggled to register only one goal while Spartans and Hikers played to a draw 2-2.
By the end of the first half, Pizza Hut GCC had already dented the defence of the Lady Bugs with Sonia Jardine scored twice (2’ and 4’) as young talent Aliyah Gordon (18’) and Kerensa Fernandes (20’) pummeled four goals.
The second half got no better for the Lady bugs with four more goals being scored on them (24’, 25’, 27 and 28’) as they only managed to scrape one consolation goal (32’).
Spartans fought hard to break away from Hikers but only saw their second draw in three matches.
Tekeisha de Leon placed Hikers on the scoreboard with a goal in the 10’ but Dominique DeGroot quickly countered with a goal for Spartans five minutes later. DeGroot returned in the second half to put Spartans in the lead with a goal in the 24’ but once again Latacia Chung equalized 10 minutes later.
Moving over to the Veterans’ division, GCC Vintage stunned Antonio’s Hickers with a 6-0 win. Devin Hooper (5’) and Dwayne Scott (10’) made sure Vintage entered the second half with a 2-0 lead, setting the platform Patrick Edghill to score twice (16’ and 29’) while both of them scored once more in the 30’ and 18’ respectively.
In the main event match of the first division, Old Fort squeezed past GCC with a 4-3 victory.
In an eventful first half, Old Fort assumed the early lead with 3-1 score line.
Eric Hing was the first to score in the 2’ which happened to be the only goal for GCC as Jason DeSantos (9’), Aderemi (16’) and Jael Gaskin (17’) scored for Old Fort.
In the second half, Kevin Spencer looked to bring GCC back in the contest with a penalty stoke in the 26’ followed by a penalty corner 10 minutes later to level the score but a late goal (39’), from Stefon Sprosta sealed GCC’s faith.
