Pomona men charged with unlawful assault

Devon Adonis, 24, and Leroy Ghir, 19, from Pomona Village, Essequibo Coast, were both charged with unlawful assault. The duo made their first appearance before Magistrate Sunil Scarce on Thursday at the Suddie Magistrate’s Court.
According to police, on March 27, 2016 at Airy Hall, Adonis unlawfully assaulted Mahendra Narine thereby causing actual bodily harm. The labourer pleaded not guilty to the charge and admitted it was the second time he was appearing in court. He was charged previously for the possession of a narcotic where he did community service.                                                                           He was then granted self-bail.
Meanwhile police stated that on March 27, 2016 Leroy Ghir unlawfully assaulted Mahendra Narine at Airy Hall Sand Pit. Ghir pleaded guilty with explanation. He said Mahendra approached his cousin trying to touch her under her skirt when she complained to him. He further related he went over and push Narine and he fell. Ghir said Narine was intoxicated at the time of the incident.
After listening to the defendant, Scarce granted Ghir ,000 bail. The duo will make their next court appearance on April 22 for the commencement of trial.
