Following a two-month recess, the Parliament of Guyana will reopen today with a packed agenda including the customary address from the Head of State, President David Granger.
Today’s hearing will commence with the tabling of several reports to the National Assembly including: a Special Report on the Public Procurement Commission’s investigation into the procurement of emergency drugs by the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation; the Report of the Commission of Inquiry established to probe the assassination plot against the President; and the Report of the Commission of Inquiry into the Camp Street Prison disturbances and resultant deaths.
Additionally, Finance Minister Winston Jordan will present his recommendations and comments on the annual budget proposals of the various constitutional agencies for 2018. The 16 entities submitted proposals amounting to $10.3 billion.
Meanwhile, the Opposition tabled several questions to be answered by the subject Ministers including: the rental of properties for Ministers and also on the many Commissions of Inquiry established by Government.
The National Assembly will also be considering the CoI report into GuySuCo by the Parliamentary Sectoral Committee on Economic Services; and the adoption of several reports, including the Standing Committee on Appointments regarding the nomination and appointment of members to the Ethnic Relations Commission as well as reports on visits to several major hospitals across the country.
