Police have said they are investigating an incident of robbery-under-arms committed on the Ready Mix Concrete Limited at Eccles Industrial Site, East Bank Demerara on Sunday between 02:30 and 03:00hrs.
An undisclosed amount of cash was taken by three armed men, who assaulted the two watchmen there — both in their late seventies.
Investigations have so far revealed that the suspects pounced upon the two watchmen and held them at gunpoint, after which they proceeded to a section of the two storey-building and used a cutting torch to gain access to the cash in a safe, which they removed.
Armed personnel from a contracted security service, responding to an alarm being emitted from the said building, confronted the suspects and an exchange of gunfire ensued, but the suspects managed to flee the scene.
Police investigations are ongoing.
