Resurging Warriors not taking struggling Stars lightly

… rush on for tickets

This evening’s clash between the Guyana Amazon Warriors and St Lucia Stars, at the National Stadium at Providence, will be a tale of the two bottom-placed teams in the 2017 Hero Caribbean Premier League (CPL) each fighting for supremacy.
Warriors have won only two of their matches, while the Stars have lost six of their seven, with their only point coming via a washout against St Kitts and Nevis Patriots.
One of the home side’s wins came against the Stars, and given that it is another must-win match for the Warriors, Manager Omar Khan told the media on Monday that they will not be taking the Stars lightly.
Khan explained that the St Lucian franchise has nothing to lose, and will play fearless cricket.
With no room now left to accommodate mistakes, Khan underscored, to keep their title hopes alive, it would be of utmost importance that the Warriors build on the momentum their spirited performance provided on Sunday evening against the Barbados Tridents.
The Manager is yet to be impressed that they have produced a complete performance, given that there were numerous mishaps in the field, and the battle was still “being waged” in the lower-order.
Opener Chadwick Walton blazed a 52-ball 92 against the Tridents, and Khan has rated that feat as a magnificent innings, but he is still puzzled at Walton’s dismissal, given that there was no pressure from the scoreboard.

The manager has again appealed to the Warriors’ loyal fans to continue coming out in their numbers to provide the extra encouragement for their home team.
Conversely, newly installed Stars’ captain Shane Watson admitted that it has been a disappointing season. He blamed this on some players sustaining injury and the team just not having luck in their favour.
Watson revealed that though a play-off spot is out of the question, The Stars want to win their remaining three matches as they look to build for the next season.
Three matches on the newly re-laid Providence pitches have produced varying scores. However, on Sunday the National Stadium recorded its highest total of 160, which Watson hopes can continue to provide a balanced contest with bat and ball.
Today’s match commences at 18:00 hrs, and gates will be open from 15:45 hrs.
