Top-of-the table clash highlights round 4

Jaguars Franchise League

Leaders Lower Corentyne and second placed West Demerara will clash from today as the Jaguars Franchise League three day competition enters the halfway stage.

Currently the leaders are ahead of West Demerara by 10.8 points and stand a strong chance to go well ahead with a win in this game. For the table toppers, discarded national player Jonathan Foo has another opportunity to stake his claim for a recall to the senior team set up.

He is already well ahead on the runs list and could extend that lead since he loves playing spin bowling, which is in abundance in the West Demerara team. Apart from Foo, there are Gajanand Singh, Surujnarine Kandasammy and Devon Clements in the Lower Corentyne side and they could all contribute to a fourth successive win for their team.

Like the last round, the Corentyne side will miss the service of its marquee bowler Veerasammy Permaul but still have some quality bowlers like Kassim Khan in its repertoire.

Meanwhile, since rebounding from a first round loss to East Coast, West Demerara has performed outstandingly to win two consecutive games. Their achievements are due to a complete team effort as Travis Persaud, Tagenarine Chanderpaul, Raymond Reifer, Sarfraz Esau, Ashkaya Persaud or Romario Shepherd have contributed with bat or ball. Reifer has a ton to his name and was outstanding with the ball so lots will be expected of him against the table leaders.

It is predicted to be an exhilarating game which would be played at the Tuschen ground.

The other matches in the fourth round are; Georgetown playing Essequibo at the Georgetown Cricket Club (GCC) ground, Upper Demerara/East Bank taking on Lower Corentyne at the Lusignan ground and East Coast Demerara battling with West Berbice at the Enterprise ground, East Coast Demerara.
