A truck erupted in flames on Saturday along the Houston Public Road, Greater Georgetown, causing severe traffic congestion for the remainder of the day.
The truck engulfed in thick smoke and flames
Based on reports received, at about 12:00h, the lorry, bearing registration plate GAB 915, was proceeding south on the East Bank Demerara (EBD) highway, and while in the vicinity of the Guyana Shore Base Incorporated, a burst of flames and thick smoke rapidly enveloped the vehicle.
The driver managed to escape unhurt, and the Guyana Fire Service was summoned to the scene. Responders arrived shortly on the scene and doused the flames within minutes. The entire front section of the vehicle was completely charred. This incident led to a backup of traffic for the remainder of the day, as the lorry remained on the roadway for some time.
