The fire reportedly started at around 12:30h and quickly engulfed the wooden building.

Guyana Times was told that neighbours called the fire service when they saw smoke emanating from the building; they also attempted to douse the flames.

According to Fire Chief, Marlon Gentle, reports of a fire were made, however, by the time the fire service arrived on the scene, the six by six structure was already completely destroyed.

Gentle informed this publication that the ‘shack’ housed one person, and the authorities, up to press time, were still trying to make contact with him.

No one was reportedly injured.

However, reports have surfaced that the man may have set fire to the structure. Whether this is true and what might have motivated the man to do so, are yet to be ascertained.

Investigations are continuing.
