1 arrested, charged for Princes & Laing Streets robbery
Police have arrested and charged one man in connection with the daring robbery which occurred on Monday last in the vicinity of Princes and Laing Streets, Charlestown.
The accused made a court appearance on Friday and was remanded to prison. He is expected to return to court on Monday, April 26, 2021.
It was reported that the accused along with three other men robbed Derick Doodnauth, of Eccles East Bank Demerara (EBD), of more than $1.5 million and a quantity of cheques that belong to a local company.
Based on reports received, the armed robbery was committed by the suspect and three others on Monday at about 10:05h.
It is being alleged that Doodnauth, who is employed as a driver with the company, had left the office with the cash to deposit same at a local bank.
However, while on Liang Street, Charlestown, the driver was caught up in traffic and while he was in the line, the suspects, who were on two separate motorcycles, circled the car.
The two pillion riders came off their motorcycles, went to the victim’s motor car, pointed their guns at the man and ordered him to open the door, to which he complied.
One of the suspects was seen dragging the victim out of the motor car and the other took out the cash and other items that were in the vehicle. They then made good their escape along Princes Street.
Police are now on the hunt for the other three suspects. Investigations are ongoing.
