Twenty-one-year-old Marlon “Deol” Gobin of Lot 312 Public Road Parika, East Bank Essequibo is now dead, while 24-year-old Ricky Ramnauth is listed in critical condition at the West Demerara Regional Hospital following an accident at Mora, Parika, East Bank Essequibo on Monday morning. A third occupant of the car was treated at the Leonora Cottage Hospital and sent away.

Dead: Marlon Deol Gobin

Based on reports received, Gobin, Ramnauth and the other man were heading to Hubu Backdam when Ramnauth lost control of the car he was driving and it toppled several times before coming to a halt in a nearby trench with its four wheels in the air. The men were reportedly trapped in the wrecked vehicle for quite some time before assistance arrived. Gobin, son of popular Parika businessman “Massive,” reportedly died on the spot.
Speaking with the media, the aggrieved father recalled seeing his son in front of his home at about 04:00h talking to two friends. “I ask he if he wasn’t coming in, but he tell me just now. So after I hear that, I went into the house and left him standing there,” Massive related.
Massive said that after some time had elapsed, he received a telephone call informing him that his son was involved in an accident. At the moment when he received the call, he had thought the news impossible, since he was under the impression that his son was sleeping. Nevertheless, to confirm that his son was at home, he told the person on the other end of the line to “hold on” as he made some checks. “When I go in he room, the bed neat, neat… it look like he nah even sleep on it for the night,” Massive related.
Immediately after checking, he saw several persons converging on his house, and they confirmed that his son had been involved in an accident.
Massive said he and other relatives went to the scene of the accident. He immediately recognised the car belonging to his son’s friend, and when he looked closer, he saw his son lying on the parapet covered in a white sheet. His wife, he said, was inconsolable, and he was left in a state of shock. As he lifted the sheet, he saw a wound to the back of his son’s neck, and realised that his son might have sustained a broken neck. According to the grieving father, the son’s friend who was driving the motorcar was already taken to the Leonora Hospital.
The now dead man used to build music systems, and the distraught father believes that he had gone to “check out a work”.
The father described his son as a helpful individual who was always pleasant and loving. His body is at the Ezekiel Funeral Home awaiting a post-mortem examination. The police are continuing their investigations into the accident.
