1 dead, 4 injured in Soesdyke accident

A deadly accident at the Soeskdyke Junction, East Bank Demerara, in the wee hours of Monday has left one person dead and four others with serious injuries after the driver lost control and slammed into a median.
Dead is 24-year-old Quamie Dalton of Timehri, EBD.

According to police information, the deadly incident occurred at about 01:00h.
Motor car bearing registration plate HD 1029 was driven by 25-year-old Shaquille Henry of Linden, Region 10 (Upper Demerara-Berbice). Along with Dalton, the vehicle was occupied by 18-year-old Shania Bordwodge of Amelia’s Ward, Linden; 20-year-old Melissa Lewis of Providence, EBD; and 37-year-old Rosanna Bobb-Semple of Kara Kara, Linden.
Reports are the car was proceeding south along East Bank Public Road when the car suddenly came into contact with the median. As a result, the driver lost control and collided with a light pole belonging to the Guyana Power and Light. From the impact, the vehicle turned turtle and was badly damaged.
All five persons were pulled from the motor car by public-spirited citizens and taken to the Diamond Diagnostic Centre, but Dalton succumbed to his injuries. The others were later transported to the Georgetown Public Hospital and are still receiving treatment.
A breathalyser test conducted on the driver proved that he was below the legal prescribed limit. Police are continuing their investigation. (G12)
