One man narrowly escaped death while a woman had to be rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital following an accident at the corners of Camp Street and Brickdam, Georgetown on Saturday afternoon.
Two vehicles – a bus belonging to Cell Phone Shack with registration plate GSS1718 and the Toyota Raum collided at the intersection, before involving a third vehicle belonging to the Education Ministry.
Guyana Times understands that the Raum was heading West on Brickdam while the bus belonging to Cell Phone Shack was heading in the opposite direction.
As the car turned South and made its way onto Camp Street, the driver collided with the Cell Phone Shack bus. After the collision, the bus ended up in the roadside drain and the car slammed into the Education Ministry’s vehicle.
A pedestrian, Fabion Barton, who narrowly escaped injury, spoke to this newspaper and related what he witnessed. According to the
clearly rattled man, he was walking along Brickdam when he saw the car slam into the bus which then skidded in his direction.
“I saw the bus coming towards me and I managed to jump out of the way but it got so close that my bag that was on my shoulder ended up pinned under the bus.”
One occupant of the car had to be rushed to hospital and is said to be in a serious condition. She is the mother of the driver of the car.
However, the other four persons involved in the accident managed to escape unhurt. The Raum and the bus belonging to Cell Phone Shack were badly damaged, while the vehicle registered to the Education Ministry received minimal damage.
Police have since launched an investigation.
