1 injured in Liliendaal accident

A man is now in critical condition at the Georgetown Public Hospital after being struck by a motorcar along the Liliendaal, East Coast Demerara (ECD) Public Road.

Injured is Apollos Mohanlall, 33, of Lot 299 Fourth Street, Alexander Village, Georgetown.

According to reports, the man was walking along the Liliendaal roadway at about 19:00h on Thursday when he was struck by a black TVR with registration number PSS 411.

The driver of the vehicle, George Chester, of Lot 67 Block R, North Sophia, Greater Georgetown, told Guyana Times that he was on his way home when Mohanlall suddenly appeared in his path.

“I was driving when this man made a sudden run across the road. After I saw that, I immediately pulled my brakes but I still struck him,” the driver said.

He added that he immediately rendered assistance to the injured man and realised that he was unconscious. “I came out of my car and I rushed to him, he was unconscious on the road and was not responding to my calls.”

Assisted by public spirited individuals, Chester picked up the man and rushed him to the Georgetown Public Hospital. This newspaper was told that Mohanlall has not regained unconsciousness and has suffered severe head injuries.

A report was made at the Sparendaam Police Station and Chester is assisting the Police with investigations.
