10 new COVID-19 cases from over 700 tests

The Health Ministry on Thursday reported 10 new COVID-19 cases after 700 swabs were processed for the virus.
An analysis shows four of the new cases were detected in Region Four (Demerara-Mahaica), one in Region Five (Mahaica-Berbice) and five in Region Six (East Berbice-Corentyne). The Ministry’s dashboard shows that deaths have remained at 1,226.
Some 14 patients are in institutional isolation, 100 are in home isolation, and 25 are in institutional quarantine. Of the 29,108 males and 34,110 females that contracted the virus, 61,877 have recovered. Some 562,620 COVID-19 tests have been administered since the virus was detected here.
Data on Thursday has shown that active cases in Guyana amount to 140. There are 14 hospitalised cases; nine are at the Infectious Diseases Hospital, with one being in the Intensive Care Unit.
Adult vaccination coverage shows 437,630 first doses and 335,691 second doses; equivalent to 85.3 per cent and 65.4 per cent respectively. In terms of adolescents, 34,234 individuals, or 46.2 per cent, have taken a first dose; with 24,896, or 34.1 per cent, returning for a second dose. Booster doses have increased to 57,071.

Persons with comorbidities have been continuously asked to continue taking their respective medications or treatment to control their condition. The preventative measures and guidelines to protect against the virus must be adhered to, since this category of person is at a greater risk if they contract COVID-19.
