10 to challenge De Professor for Senior Calypso title

After a spectacular semi-final in the mining town on Linden last Saturday, the 10 calypsonians who made the cut into the finals are ready to dethrone the reigning king, De Mighty Professor.

Come this evening, De Mighty Professor will take the stage for the first time in the competition as the defending champion and the Lindener is all prepared to defend his title.

Those competing for the title are John Marcus, also known as “Ras Marcus”;calipso copy Kenroy Fraser; Diana Chapman; Pearl Lewis, also known as “Precious Pearl”; Tshanna Cort; Wendell Walcott, also known as “Mighty Hunter”; Roger Hinds, also known as “Young Bill Rogers”; Lassel Duke, also known as “The Mighty Duke”; Dawn Edwards, also known as “Lady D”; and Manoel Ferriera, also known as “King Perai”.

Those to look out for are former calypso kings, Young Bill Rogers and King Perai as well Diana Chapman out of the mining town. Junior Calypso Monarch Tshanna Cort is also hoping to get the nod from the judges as she is the youngest competitor in the business.

The senior men and women will be vying for $2 million in cash prizes at Demerara Park, Georgetown. The action gets underway at 20:00h and everyone will be admitted free.
