Home News 10-year-old drowns during seawall outing with brother, cousin
The lifeless body of 10-year-old Anand Mangroo of Lot 380 Hope Low Lands, East Coast Demerara (ECD), was on Sunday evening pulled from the Hope seashore. The lad went missing earlier in the day after he was lashed towards the Hope Koker channel by a heavy wave.
At the time he disappeared, he was swimming with his 13-year-old brother and an 8-year-old cousin.
Based on reports received, after the lad was lashed towards the koker channel, he went under the water and never resurfaced. Following the incident, the lad’s brother reportedly screamed for assistance but no one went to their aid.
Soon after relatives were informed of the incident and the Police were contacted. Scores of villagers and relatives turned up at the foreshore to look for the lad but he was not found.
Meanwhile, the Police were able to pull the child out of the water a few hours after he disappeared. His body was taken to Lyken’s Funeral home awaiting a post-mortem.
An investigation has been launched into the incident.
Back in July 2018, the bodies of 14-year-old Timothy Robinson and his cousin, 10-year-old Timothy Yearwood of Mosquito Hall, Mahaica, ECD, were found one day after they went missing while swimming at Unity Beach, Mahaica.
Robinson was reportedly found along the Hope Beach foreshore, while Yearwood was found in the vicinity of the Kitty foreshore, Georgetown.
