103 new COVID cases detected, 4 in ICU

The country has recorded 103 new cases of the novel coronavirus, taking the total positives detected to date to 69,730.
According to new statistics released by the Ministry, 38 persons are in institutional isolation, four of whom are in the ICU. A total of 912 are isolating at home while four are in institutional quarantine.
Recoveries stand at 66,512 while the death toll remains at 1264.
Since the outbreak of the novel coronavirus in Guyana over two years ago, a total 669,077 tests have been conducted countrywide and of this, some 31,526 males and 37,204 females were found to be positive.
Of the 103 new cases recorded on Friday, nine were recorded in Region One (Barima-Waini); 11 from Region Two (Pomeroon-Supenaam); five cases from Region Three (Essequibo Islands-West Demerara); 50 from Region Four (Demerara- Mahaica); six in Region Five (Mahaica-Berbice), three in Region Six (East Berbice-Corentyne), one in Region Seven (Cuyuni-Mazaruni), and 18 in Region Nine (Upper Takutu-Upper Essequibo).
There were no new cases recorded in Regions Eight and 10 within the reporting 24-hour period.
According to the World Health Organisation’s (WHO) recent figures, some 557,917,904 confirmed cases were reported globally along with 6,358,899 deaths.
In the Region of the Americas, that is, Latin America and the Caribbean, the number of confirmed COVID-19 cases has increased to 166,308,606 while the death toll in the region has gone up to 2,773,046.
