105 new ranks, 9 apprentices inducted into GPF

– urged to discharge duties with professionalism, impartiality

The Guyana Police Force (GPF) has been further strengthened with the addition of 105 newly trained ranks, following the Passing-Out Parade for Recruit Courses on Friday at the Tactical Services Unit Drill Square, Eve Leary.
Nine apprentices also successfully completed the training programme, bringing the total number of graduates to 114.
The ranks commenced training on June 3, 2026, and underwent approximately four months of intensive theoretical and practical training aimed at preparing them for the demands and responsibilities of modern policing.
The training covered several areas, including introductory and contemporary policing, traffic management and accident investigation, criminal law and procedures, crime-scene management, first aid, information technology, human rights, professional ethics, communication, family violence, anger management and martial arts.
The recruits were also exposed to firearm safety and handling, foot and weapon drills, public-order training, physical fitness, court proceedings, and practical work-study exercises at Police stations.

Delivering the feature address, Deputy Commissioner (Administration) Ravindradat Budhram reminded the graduates that passing out of the Academy represents not the end of their development but the beginning of a career of service and responsibility.
He urged the ranks to recognise that wearing the uniform carries significant public responsibility, noting that their conduct, both on and off duty, can influence how citizens perceive not only them individually but the entire GPF.
Budhram further encouraged the graduates to discharge their duties with professionalism, impartiality and respect for the rights and dignity of every citizen. He also stressed that modern policing requires more than physical courage, pointing to the importance of critical thinking, sound judgement, emotional intelligence, technological competence and strong relationships with communities.
He further encouraged the ranks to take advantage of educational and professional-development opportunities available within the Force, stressing that the organisation will continue to provide avenues for their advancement.
“The Force will not leave anyone behind unless you choose to do so,” Budhram told the graduates, while encouraging them to continuously develop themselves for the benefit of their families, communities and the organisation.
Earlier, Director of the GPF Academy, Senior Superintendent Sonia Herbert, welcomed the graduates, their relatives and other attendees, while reminding the new ranks that the values of knowledge, honour and integrity must form the foundation of their character as Policemen and women.
Senior Superintendent Herbert also acknowledged the sacrifices and support of the graduates’ families and loved ones throughout the training period. She reminded the graduates that the uniform represents responsibility, courage and public trust and urged them to wear it with pride while serving without fear or favour.
Inspector Jason McCalmont, who presented the Course Review, reflected on the recruits’ journey from the commencement of training to their successful completion of the programme.
He highlighted their progress throughout the training period and the discipline, resilience and commitment required to meet the standards of the GPF Academy, noting that the programme was designed to prepare them for the responsibilities they will now undertake as serving members of the Force.
Several recruits were recognised for outstanding performances across the six courses in the categories of Best Student, Runner-up, Best Drill and Best Shot.
The ceremony also featured a drill display, presentation of awards and certificates and the traditional march-off of the graduating ranks.
The Passing-Out Parade marked the culmination of months of rigorous training and the beginning of a new chapter for the graduates as they prepare to serve communities across Guyana. Several ranks were awarded for their outstanding performances in the Recruit Courses 402, 403, 404, 405, 24G and 49B.
