11 families receive keys to new homes under Lethem Housing Initiative

Yesterday, some 11 Lethem, Region Nine, families received keys to their brand-new homes which were constructed under the Lethem Housing Support Initiative.
Each of the homes measures approximately 550 square feet and includes two bedrooms, a living room, a kitchen area, and a bathroom facility.
Valued at about $3 million, the homes are made more affordable through a $1 million building-materials subsidy provided by the Housing Ministry. Beneficiaries finance the remaining cost through mortgages.
The houses were also constructed using locally sourced materials, providing economic support to several communities within the region and contributing to local development.

One of the beneficiaries, Judith Browne, who is days shy of her birthday, related that the keys to her new home are indeed the perfect gift.
For another proud beneficiary, Ann Paulino, the day represented the end of years of living with relatives. Paulino, a mother of four and grandmother, said the new home brings stability and independence for her family.

More importantly, she expressed joy at finally having a home she can one day pass on to her grandson, something she described as deeply meaningful for her family’s future.
Meanwhile, the Lethem Housing Support Initiative is already advancing into its second phase.
Construction is currently underway on another 45 homes within the Central Housing & Planning Authority (CHPA)’s Tract CHPA Housing Scheme, with an additional 55 houses expected to begin in the coming weeks.
The programme continues to play an important role in expanding homeownership opportunities for families in Region Nine, ensuring that more residents can access safe and affordable housing.
