Horse racing fans will witness 11 exciting races on Sunday, May 31 at the Port Mourant Turf Club at the Independence Cup horse race meet.
More than $15 million in cash and prizes will be up for grabs and fans will see the return of Guyana’s champion horse, Dataman.
The unbeaten Dataman won the last Guyana Cup, President’s Cup and the Banks DIH Classic. Dataman’s stable-mate Anthem King is also expected to run in the feature race on May 31, the Independence Cup.
The feature 8.5-furlong race will be open to all three-year-old and over horses and the purse will be a whopping $5,625,000. The top horses will be rewarded $3 million.

Other races on the provisional card include the D Class and Lower, three-year-old imported bred open, F Class and Lower open to E Class non-winners in Guyana, and the three-year-old Guyana bred open.
Additionally, there will be the H Class non-winners in Guyana, open to WI bred non-winners for one year, also open to three-year-old WI bred non-winners of two races.
There will also be a H Class open race, I Class and Lower, K and L Class open to four years-old and upwards, L Class maidens four-year-old and up open to three-year-old Guyana bred non-earners fillies and mares, and the L Class maidens four-year-old and up open to three-year-old Guyana bred non-earners colts and geldings.
Entries for this race day opened on May 9 and will close on May 26. The races will run under the Guyana rules of racing. Simon Prince will be the race co-ordinator.
The event is powered by Banks DIH, and organised by Jumbo Jet Events.
