Home News 112 new COVID-19 cases recorded
Total infections of COVID-19 in Guyana have reached 66,947, after another 112 new cases were reported on Friday.
There are still 1249 confirmed deaths, with two persons in the Intensive Care Unit. From the latest dashboard, 20 persons are in institutional isolation, 862 in home isolation and one in institutional quarantine.
Additionally, a total of 64,814 persons have recovered – of which 76 were new. However, almost 900 active infections are still being monitored across health facilities. Meanwhile, 656,135 tests have been processed to date.
An analysis shows new cases dispersed across seven administrative regions, with four in Region One (Barima-Waini), 12 in Region Two (Pomeroon-Supenaam), 14 in Region Three (Essequibo Islands-West Demerara), 73 in Region Four (Demerara-Mahaica), six in Region Six (East Berbice-Corentyne), two in region Seven (Cuyuni-Mazaruni) and three in Region 10 (Upper Demerara-Berbice).
There were no new reported cases in Regions Five (Mahaica-Berbice) Eight (Potaro-Siparuni) and Nine (Upper Demerara-Berbice).
Latest vaccination figures show that so far, more than 443,177 or 86.4 per cent of adults have taken a first dose, while some 342,918 or 66.8 per cent of persons 18 years and over are fully vaccinated.
For adolescents between the ages of 12 and 17, just over 25,500 or 35 per cent are fully vaccinated. Vaccination is also available for children within the ages of five and 11 years, hundreds of whom have already received a first dose. In addition, in excess of 67,500 persons have returned for their third-dose booster shots thus far.
This month, Government lifted the COVID-19 testing requirement for international travel. Travellers 12 years and older are still required to be fully vaccinated for entry into Guyana. This is currently the only requirement needed to pass through the ports of entry.
According to the World Health Organisation’s (WHO) recent figures, about 537 million confirmed cases were reported globally along with 6.3 million deaths.
In the Region of the Americas, the number of confirmed COVID-19 cases are pegged at over 160 million with a death toll of 2.7 million.
