$115.8M in ganja found along Berbice River

One day after Police found and destroyed $30 million worth of ganja at Fort Nassau Savannah, Upper Berbice River, $115.8 million worth of marijuana was discovered and subsequently destroyed at Zion, Berbice River.
Police said the drug was destroyed during a narcotic eradication exercise conducted by its ranks.

The exercise, which was conducted between 05:20h and 18:07h on Friday, was an intelligence-led operation carried out by ranks from Police Headquarters and from Regional Divis

The operation led to the discovery of three fields of marijuana (Cannabis sativa) sitting on about 40 acres of land consisting of about 55,000 cannabis plants ranging from 1 foot to 10 feet in height, about 60 pounds of dried cannabis, six nurseries, and five camps.
The cannabis plants and camps were destroyed by way of fire. No arrest was made.
On Thursday last, ranks of Regional Division Six (East Berbice-Corentyne), conducted an eradication exercise at Fort Nassau Savannah, Upper Berbice River, where a farm consisting of about 10,000 Cannabis sativa plants ranging from 3ft to 5ft in height with a street value of $4 million was destroyed.
As Police approached the camp, three males were seen running into the nearby bushes and escaping.
Another farm was discovered in the same area with about 450 beds that were already reaped, and a makeshift camp containing 900lbs of compressed Cannabis sativa valued at $27 million was discovered.
A nursery consisting of 5000 plants, along with a .38 revolver and a single barrel shotgun were also found.
As such, the makeshift camp, plants, and compressed Cannabis sativa were all destroyed by fire and the firearms were taken to Central Police Station and lodged. (G9)
