12-year-old girl among several injured in Plaisance minibus accident

Several persons received minor injuries on Sunday afternoon after the minibus they were travelling in crashed into a parked minibus on the Plaisance Public Road, East Coast Demerara.

Based on information received, around 15:30h, a packed route 44 minibus was travelling to Georgetown on the Plaisance Public Road.

According to Police C Division (East Coast Demerara) Commander Calvin Brutus, the driver of the minibus reportedly “mis-averaged” and struck another minibus which was parked in front of the Plaisance Police Station.
A number of passengers, including a 12-year-old girl, were taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital and were reportedly treated for minor injuries.
At the medical facility, the relatives of 46-year-old Raymond Hendricks told Guyana Times that he was being treated for head injuries and abrasions to his feet, while the family of the 12-year-old disclosed that she was being treated for head injuries. The young girl’s mother, who was also in the minibus at the time of the accident, reportedly fainted at the scene and was taken to the Hospital in an unconscious state.
The driver of the Route 44 minibus was taken into Police custody and his vehicle was impounded. Investigations are ongoing.
