16 arrested during raid operations in city

A total of 16 persons were arrested following a Police operation in several locations in Georgetown on Saturday.
Police stated that on the day in question at about 11:20h, ranks of Regional Division 4A were on motorcycle patrol and whilst proceeding south along Ruimveldt Public Road, they stopped a motorcycle bearing registration number CF 4860 driven by a 29-year-old male and his 52-year-old pillion rider.

The ranks carried out a search on the two individuals and found one .38 revolver special firearm with three matching rounds of ammunition in the crotch of the pants of the pillion rider. The serial number on the firearm was reportedly filed off.
They were both arrested and escorted to the Ruimveldt Police Station and placed in custody. The firearm and ammunition were marked, sealed and lodged. The motorcycle was also lodged.

Also on Saturday, Police carried out raids in D Field Sophia; Duke Street, Kingston; Middle Road, La Penitence; Tiger Bay, Albouystown, and Independence Boulevard, Georgetown, for firearms, ammunition, cannabis and stolen items.
During that raid, 14 persons were arrested. Police said the suspects are between the ages of 19 and 32. Investigations are ongoing.
