16-year-old girl shot by gun-toting man

A 16-year-old girl of Lot 3188 Recht Door Zee, Canal Number One Polder, is now nursing a gunshot injury to her upper right shoulder after she was shot by a man during an incident at Westminster Access Road, West Bank Demerara on Sunday evening.

The teenager was admitted to the Georgetown Public Hospital where her condition was listed as stable.

Reports are the teenager, along with her parents and a 17-year-old female friend, was returning home from church when they were confronted by two males, one of whom was armed with a handgun.

The 17-year-old friend was held at gunpoint by the man, who instructed the others not to move. Although that order was passed, the 16-year-old victim stood in front of her friend and it was at this time, the gunman discharged a round hitting her in the shoulder.

The gunman and his accomplice immediately fled the scene in a heavily tinted Carina 212 motor car that had been parked some distance away.

The injured teen was taken to the West Demerara Regional Hospital where she was treated, but was later transferred to the Georgetown Public Hospital, where she remains a patient. The shooting incident was reported to the Police, but no arrests were made.
