17 new COVID-19 cases detected in 24 hours, 2 in ICU

The Health Ministry on Friday reported that 17 new COVID cases were detected within the last 24 hours, taking the country’s confirmed cases to 70,943. Currently, health officials are monitoring 208 active cases in the country.
The death toll remains at 1278.
According to new statistics, two persons are in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at the Liliendaal facility while six persons are in institutional isolation, 281 in home isolation, and three in institutional quarantine.
The statistics also showed that 69,376 persons have recovered and 686,578 tests were processed to date.
Of the 17 new cases recorded on Friday, two are from Region Two (Pomeroon-Supenaam); 11 from Region Four (Demerara-Mahaica); three from Region Six (East Berbice-Corentyne), and the remaining one from Region Seven (Cuyuni-Mazaruni).
No new cases were recorded in the other six regions across the country.
Latest vaccination figures show that so far, 445,755 or 86.9 per cent of adults have taken a first dose, while some 345,481 or 67.3 per cent of persons are fully vaccinated.
For adolescents between the ages of 12 and 17, 35,552 first doses or 48.7 per cent and 26,049 or 35.7 per cent second doses have been administered.
Vaccination for children in the five to 11 category shows 7681 first doses or 7.5 per cent. Only 2818 or 2.8 per cent have returned for their second shot.
In addition, 72,410 persons have returned for their booster shots thus far. A breakdown of the booster shot administration amongst the different age cohorts reveals that 487 booster shots have been administered to persons who are aged 12-17; 11,674 to ages 18-29; 11,428 to ages 30-39; 27,082 to ages 40-59; and 21,739 to persons who above 60 years of age, according to the Minister of Health, Dr Frank Anthony.
According to the World Health Organisation’s (WHO) recent figures, some 590,659,276 confirmed cases were reported globally, along with 6,440,163 deaths.
In the Region of the Americas; that is, Latin America and the Caribbean, the number of confirmed COVID-19 cases has increased to 173,816,062, while the death toll in the region has gone up to 2,805,122.
