17 persons living with disabilities complete plumbing training

The Human Services and Social Security Ministry has expanded its Learning Lab for Persons with Disabilities as part of ongoing efforts to promote inclusion and economic empowerment. According to a social media post from the Ministry, 17 participants from East Bank Demerara (EBD) Region Four (Demerara-Mahaica) successfully completed a plumbing course held from June 8 to June 17. The eight-day programme provided hands-on training in basic plumbing skills, including the identification and sizing of PVC pipes, the use of plumbing adhesives and materials, measuring and cutting techniques, reading labels, and the installation of simple pipe fittings and plumbing structures. The Ministry said the initiative is designed to equip persons living with disabilities with practical, marketable skills that can support employment and entrepreneurship opportunities. It added that the Learning Lab is part of efforts to strengthen pathways toward self-sufficiency and to promote greater inclusion for persons with disabilities in society.
