A total of 17 chutney singers have been selected to participate in this year’s Annual Chutney Monarch Competition organised by the Social Cohesion Ministry, with Rajesh Dubraj as the convenor.
Following the auditions, 21 singers were initially selected to participate but two withdrew due to travelling difficulties and two due to personal commitments.
However, the semi-finals are set for Sunday, February 11 at the Bartica Community Centre Ground, Region Seven (Cuyuni-Mazaruni) and the grand finale is set for Sunday, February 18 at the Leonora Synthetic Track, West Coast Demerara.
At the semi-finals, six persons will be eliminated and will compete against reigning Chutney Monarch Vanita Wallie at the finals. Wallie’s song for this year’s chutney monarch is titled, “Phool Basiya and She Husband”.
