18-year-old Lusignan Prison inmate nabbed with ganja in underwear
An 18-year-old Lusignan Prison inmate who is serving a sentence for armed robbery was on Sunday found with a quantity of marijuana stashed in his underwear. The teenager is from Albouystown, Georgetown.
The ganja that was found in the prisoner’s underwear
Police stated that on the day in question at about 10:30h, at the Lusignan Prison, East Coast Demerara (ECD), the teenager was found with 92 grams of cannabis.
Preliminary investigations revealed that on the date and time mentioned above, the teenager was on the prison farm during which a Prison Training Instructor (PTI) observed him acting in a suspicious manner.
As a result, the PTI conducted a search on the prisoner and two brownish plastic parcels were found in the inmate’s underwear.
Commander for Regional Division 4C, Senior Superintendent Khali Pareshram said the Police were summoned and the said parcels were handed over to a rank.
The parcel was checked in the presence of the inmate and the PTI and a quantity of ganja was found and subsequently weighed and amounted to 92 grams.
He was told of the allegation and admitted ownership. He is expected to be charged shortly.
