$1M Domino championship starts March 30

Over $1,000,000 in prize monies and trophies will be up for grabs in the Annual Faye Joseph International Domino Competition which is expected to commence on Friday, March 30, at the National Gymnasium.
This is according to the Organising Committee which met on Wednesday for its first meeting, at the Marriott International Hotel in Kingston.

The Meeting was organized to kick start plans for the event anticipated as a precursor for the hosting of the World Council of Domino Federations (WCDF) Championships set to be played from October 4-14 in Guyana.
Joseph, who holds the Presidency for the Guyana National Domino Federation (GNDF) and the Georgetown Domino Association (GDA) in remarks said that she is working assiduously to confirm a sponsor in the coming week and was optimistic that the Company that was approached will support the tournament.
She disclosed that the winning team will receive $500,000 plus trophy and medals, while second and third place finishers will take away $300,000 and $200,000 respectively along with trophies and medals.
The Most Valuable Player in the final will win $10,000 and a trophy.
Joseph also revealed that the Pull-A-Rama or Individual Competition will be played on the opening day and players are being asked to register for a small fee of $2,000.
For teams desirous of competition, the registration fee will be $20,000 and each team is entitled to a free case of Hairoun Beer upon completion of registration.
Apart from Guyana, teams are expected from the USA, Britain, Barbados and Puerto Rico and they will battle for supremacy from March 30-April 7.
Meanwhile, the other members present at the Meeting were Senior Organising Secretary- Barbara Marshall, Assistant Organising Secretary- Kevin Boston, Rodwell Phillips and Mark Wiltshire.
The Committee will meet again shortly to further discuss plans for the big event.
