1st round off to successful start

The Berbice Cricket Board on Saturday started to fulfill its commitment to play cricket at all levels, as play in the Elizabeth Styles 50-over Under-21 Tournament bowled off at venues across the Ancient County.
Blairmont Community Centre defeated Young Achievers by 145 runs. Blairmont scored 233 all out from 37-Overs with Zameer Inshan topscoring with a blistering 82 (8x6s,5x4s) while Nigel Deodat supported with an attractive 51.

Bowling for Young Achievers, offspinner N. Persaud took 3 for 48, R. Daniels 2 for 41 and L. Dhana 2 for 30. The Visitors in response were bowled out for 88 in 22-Overs as only N. Persaud offered any resistance with 29. Deodat returned with the ball to take 3 for 5 from 4-Overs while Keijon Gangoo 2 for 13, Ramveshwar Samaroo 2 for 29 and Seon Glasgow 3 for 25 offered support.
D’Edward Sports Club defeated Bush Lot Rising Star by 6 wickets at Bush Lot. Bush Lot Rising Star was dismissed for 71 in 26-Overs as Yougendar Budhu 34 and Daniel VivaKanand 13 were the main scorers.
In response, Wasim Ishan basted a quick fire 51 as D’Edward reached 72 for 4 in 16-Overs to win easily. Y. Budhu took 3 for 21 for the home team.
Kildonan Cricket Club making a welcome return to Berbice Cricket at the junior level was brushed aside by Tamarind Root Cricket Club at the Hampshire Ground. Mohin Gopilall topscored with 24 while Angelino Ramdihal supported with 16 as Kildonan was bowled out for 78 in 20.1 Overs. Bowling for Tamarind Root, Ramnarine Mahadeo took 4 for 15 and Ricko Ramsammy 3 for 3.
Skipper Brandon Prashad then blasted 51 not out (6x4s,4x6s) as he led his team to a ten wicket victory. Mahabir Suraj supported with 16.

Alex Algoo

At the Rose Hall Canje Ground, Young Warriors Cricket Club defeated Rose Hall Canje by 8 wickets. Rose Hall Canje Cricket Club scored 123 all out in 34-Overs as Z. Lindee topscored with 25 while Alex Algoo had bowling figures of 8-1-45.
Algoo a National Junior cricketer returned with the bat to score an impressive 62 and together with Trevon Stanislaus 33 not out led their team to 127 for 2 in 24.3 Overs. Berbice Under-15 Player took the two wickets to fall for 18 runs in 4.3 overs.
At the Kennard’s Memorial Ground, located in Bush Lot, Central Corentyne, the Ramnarine Memorial Club defeated Big Star by 168 runs in a one sided affair. Batting first, the home team amassed 183 all out in 30-Overs as Amanullah Amit topscored with 61 while Keemo Layon hit 30. In response, Big Star was shot out for 15 runs in just 7.2 Overs as pacers Gobin Mangroo 5 for 3 and Naresh Noothsingh 5 for 6 bowled well on a pitch offering some resistance.
Tucber Park defeated Kendall’s Union Sports Club by 73 runs. National Youth Player Steve Deonarine struck 57 while Brandon Corlette supported with 55 as the visitors ended on 223 from 42-Overs. Mark Barker took 5 wickets for 30 runs.
In response Kendall’s Union was dismissed for 150 as Joshua Singh took 3 wickets for 25 while Leon Swammy and Joel Davis both claimed two wickets. Mark Barker stroked 55 while H. Harris supported with 27 for Kendall’s Union in a losing battle.
The Tournament continues on Saturday with the second round of matches.
