Two men were arrested, and an unlicensed firearm believed to have been used in a shooting incident targeting a 24-year-old businessman was found in their possession.
Reports are that the incident occurred at about 23:20h on Monday at the businessman’s residence in Riverview, Ruimveldt, Georgetown, where he and his wife operate a shop.
It was reported that the victim and his 23-year-old reputed wife were inside their shop, situated in front of their residence, when they noticed the two suspects approaching, heading west on the main road at Riverview, Ruimveldt.
As the suspects reached the shop, one of them pulled out a handgun from his waist and discharged a round in the businessman’s direction. However, the man managed to evade being injured by seeking immediate safety in retreating into his yard, along with his wife.
The suspects then made good their escape on foot, heading east of Riverview, Ruimveldt and continuing south on the Ruimveldt Public Road. The businessman immediately called the Police, and ranks responded.
Acting on information received, the cops proceeded to Norton and Chapel Streets, Lodge, Georgetown, where they encountered two 28-year-old males. While approaching the individuals, the Police ranks observed one suspect removing a handgun from his right-side pants waist and discarding it on the ground. The firearm was recovered, and was found to be a 9MM pistol accompanied by a magazine containing three live 9MM rounds.
The suspects have been arrested, and remain in custody as investigations continue. (G9)
