A 23-year-old driver and a 24-year-old labourer of Canal Number 2 Polder, West Bank Demerara (WBD), were arrested and are being processed for court for stoning a police vehicle on Sunday evening.
Based on reports received, on the day in question at about 23:10h, a police mobile unit was patrolling in Canal No Two Polder, WBD, when the ranks observed a crowd gathered on the roadway. As a result, the ranks approached the crown but the persons managed to disperse into the bushes.
However, while hiding in the bushes, they started to throw stones at the ranks, but in retaliation, the police gave chase thus resulting in the arrests of the two men.
They were both taken to the Wales Police Station where they were cautioned, told of the offence and are being processed for court. A police source stated that the two men will likely face additional charges since they were breaching the COVID-19 guidelines which state that a curfew is in effect from 18:00h – 06:00h on a daily basis.
The police are also continuing their investigations into the matter.
