Ranks of the Customs Anti-Narcotics Unit (CANU) on Tuesday intercepted a motor car and discovered $6.5 million worth of cocaine within the vehicle.
At the time, the officers were conducting an intelligence-led operation at Guyhoc Park, Tucville, Georgetown.

A release from the Unit stated that when the car was stopped, two occupants were in the vehicle. They were identified as a 43-year-old man who resides at the Guyana Defence Force (GDF) Housing Scheme in West Ruimveldt, Georgetown, and a 35-year-old man who resides at Gibson Street, Tucville.
The duo was arrested.

The cocaine, which was contained in five packages, was taken to the CANU Headquarters for testing. The total weight was 5.814 kilogram with a street value of $6.5 million.
Less than two weeks ago, two suspects who were trafficking some $17 million worth of ganja opened fire on CANU ranks during an operation at Number 69 Village, Corentyne, Berbice, Region Six (East Berbice-Corentyne).
The CANU officers had intercepted motor car PKK 4588 during which 129.6lbs of marijuana were found and seized.

However, the two men who were in the vehicle opened fire when confronted by the law enforcement officials. The suspects managed to flee the scene.
CANU said it was suspected that the illegal drug was intended for trans-shipment to Suriname. It also noted too that the substance was worth a street value of $17,640,000. (G9)
