Two Georgetown residents were on Sunday taken into Police custody after a quantity of ganja and an illegal firearm and matching ammunition were discovered in the car in which they were travelling.

The car was intercepted at a roadblock at Weldaad Police Station, West Coast Berbice (WCB). Based on reports received, the marijuana was discovered in the hood of the car while the gun and ammunition were found under the driver’s seat.
Based on information received, a 34-year-old man of Lamaha Park, Georgetown, and a 28-year-old woman of David Street, Kitty, were the occupants of motor car PYY 2127 when it pulled up at a roadblock. Upon seeing the two people, Police ordered them out of the vehicle so that a search could be conducted on their persons.
The .38 revolver along with five live rounds of ammunition were found. Guyana Times understands that the serial number on the weapon is almost invisible.
Further, a search was conducted on the vehicle but nothing was found inside but as the hood of the car was popped, at least six parcels of ganja were discovered wrapped in transparent plastic. The duo was immediately arrested and placed in custody.
During interrogation, the man confessed that the drugs were his and that the woman had no knowledge of same. They are expected to be charged shortly.
