2 charged for narco trafficking after over 2.6 kg ganja bust

Two persons have been charged and remanded after the Customs Anti-Narcotics Unit (CANU) intercepted a motor vehicle in Success Village, East Bank Demerara, on Thursday, uncovering 2.614 kilograms of cannabis.

Reports are that, acting on a tip-off, CANU officers stopped the vehicle along Rupert Craig Public Road. A search of the vehicle revealed several brick-like parcels containing the illicit substance. Two men, Isaiah Charles and Sheldon Chase, were arrested and taken to CANU Headquarters along with the seized narcotics.

On Friday, Charles and Chase appeared before Magistrate Nurse at the Sparendaam Magistrate’s Court, facing charges of possession of narcotics for the purpose of trafficking. Both men pleaded not guilty, and bail was refused. The case has been adjourned to April 2. CANU continues to urge members of the public to report information related to illegal narcotics to assist ongoing operations.
