2 charged in separate traffic violations

Two men appeared separately before the courts on Wednesday, January 14 charged with multiple but separate traffic violations.
Josian Vanderhyden, a 22 year-old laborer of Sideline Dam Queenstown Essequibo Coast was charged for having an uninsured motor vehicle; being an unlicensed driver, and failing to have an ID mark on motor vehicle (rear), on Wednesday, December 24, 2025, at Anna Regina Access Road, Essequibo Coast.
The charges were laid under the Motor Vehicle and Road Traffic Act, chapter 51:02 for Uninsured Motor Vehicle; Unlicensed Driving Section and Road Traffic Act.
The charges were read to defendant on Wednesday January 14 when the defendant appeared at Anna Regina Magistrate’s Court before his Magistrate Ravindra Mohabir, where he pleaded guilty to the charges and was fined in total the sum of $145,000; or in default, three months’ imprisonment for each charge.

Christopher John

Meanwhile, Christopher John, a 27 year-old construction worker of Lot 26 Lima Sands Essequibo Coast, was charged for refusing to provide to a breath specimen for a breath alcohol test; breach of insurance, and being unlicensed driver, on Sunday, January 11, 2026, at Anna Regina Public Road Essequibo Coast.
On Wednesday, January 14, 2026, at Anna Regina Magistrate’s Court before Magistrate Ravindra Mohabir, the charges were read to the defendant, where he pleaded guilty to the Breach of Insurance charge and was fined $40,000 or in default three months imprisonment, and for being an unlicensed driver, where he was fined $ 30,000, or in default, two months imprisonment
However, John pleaded not guilty to the charge of refusing to provide a breath specimen for a breath alcohol test, and bail was granted in the sum of $200,000.
The case adjourned for March 10, 2026 for statements.
