2 critical as speeding bus topples on Regent Street
Two persons are in critical condition at the Georgetown Public Hospital (GPHC) after the minibus they were travelling in slammed into a motorcycle before toppling on Regent Street, Georgetown on Saturday night.
Reports are the minibus, bearing registration plates BTT 7944, driven by an off-duty Policeman Timothy Andrews, toppled after he reportedly swerved to avoid hitting a motorcycle. However, Guyana Times understands that the minibus slammed into the motorcycle, struck a power pole, then toppled.
Those injured are Ronald Maxwell, the conductor, 23, of Kitty, Georgetown; Manfro Jeffery, 23, of Trinidad and Tobago; and Trevor Phillips, 22 of North Sophia, Greater Georgetown. However, the other passengers and the motorcyclist are still to be identified.
While details are still sketchy, this newspaper understands that the motorcyclist and a passenger are in critical condition at the GPHC.
