2 critical patients air-dashed by GDF from Bartica to GT

The patients being removed from the helicopter after it landed at Base Camp Ayanganna

The Guyana Defence Force (GDF) on Wednesday evening successfully medevacked two critically ill patients from the Bartica Regional Hospital to Georgetown.
A 43-year-old man who developed complications following major abdominal surgery, and a female with post-delivery complications are the two patients. It was important for them to be transported to the Georgetown Public Hospital (GPHC) to receive advanced care.
The helicopter proved ideal, as transporting them via water or in another aircraft could have caused them undue distress and possibly worsen their conditions.
Upon their arrival at Base Camp Ayanganna, GDF medics assisted in moving them into the ambulance, after which they were transported to the hospital. A family member of one of the patients and a nurse were also onboard the flight.
The 8R-AYA is retrofitted to transport up to three patients, along with medical personnel and equipment.
The GDF extends best wishes to the patients for a speedy recovery, and is grateful to have been able to be of assistance.
