Police in Bartica, Region Seven (Cuyuni-Mazaruni) are currently investigating an accident that occurred in the Essequibo River on Sunday night at about 21:30h leaving two people dead and three others injured. Dead is George (only name given) along with another person.
The incident reportedly took place at Tuh Tuh Island Point Area and involved a wooden boat bearing the bow markings “Orvin & Sons”.
According to Commander of Region Seven, Deon Moore there were several passengers on board at the time of the accident. Two persons were initially reported missing and their bodies were found on Tuesday morning. Three other passengers sustained injuries and were taken for medical attention, he stated.
Police have since launched an investigation into the incident.
