2 hospitalised following collision in Berbice

A motorcyclist and his pillion rider are now patients at the New Amsterdam Hospital after they collided with a car along the Corentyne Road, Berbice.
Injured are Shurlon Luke, 21, and Molika Gittens, 18, both of Manchester Village, Corentyne, Berbice, Region Six (East Berbice-Corentyne).
The accident occurred at about 14:45h on Saturday.
According to Police, the driver of the car said that he was proceeding east along the Liverpool Public Road, Corentyne, when he alleged that while approaching his residence, he had put on his right-side indicator and stopped. While in the process of turning south, into his residence, Luke, who was approaching from behind, collided with the right side of his vehicle
As a result of the collision, Luke lost control of his motorcycle and ended up in a trench located on the southern side of the public road along with his pillion rider.
Luke and Gittens were picked up in an unconscious state by public-spirited residents and taken to the Port Mourant Public Hospital where they were treated for their injuries.
They were subsequently transferred to the New Amsterdam Public Hospital for further medical attention. Their conditions are regarded as serious.
According to the Police, the driver of the car was taken into custody and a breathalyser test was conducted on him. He had no trace of alcohol, Police said.
The driver remains in custody and is assisting investigations.
