2 injured after minibus collides with motorcycle

A 22-year-old motorcyclist of Church Street Uitvlugt, West Coast Demerara (WCD), is now hospitalised following a hit-and-run accident on Saturday evening.
At the time of the accident, the injured man, Mark Harvey, and his pillion rider, Colette Austin, 22, were travelling on motorcycle CL3637 when a minibus reportedly hit them.
Police stated that on the day in question at about 23:00h, the two men were proceeding east along the northern drive lane of Zeelugt Public Road, East Bank Essequibo (EBE), when it was alleged by the motorcyclist that as they approached Silk Cotton Dam Zeelugt, EBE, the minibus failed to stop at the intersection.
As a result, the minibus collided with the left side middle portion of the motorcycle, causing the motorcyclist and the pillion rider to fall onto the roadway where they sustained injuries.
The minibus, on the other hand, did not stop to render assistance.
The motorcyclist and pillion rider were picked up by public-spirited citizens in a conscious condition and taken to the Leonora Cottage Hospital where they were treated for their injuries.
The motorcyclist was, however, transferred to West Demerara Regional Hospital (WDRH) where he has been admitted a patient with a fractured left leg. The pillion rider was treated and sent away.
Investigations into the accident are ongoing, as Police are now hunting the driver and the bus that was involved in the accident.
