2 inmates shot at Lusignan Prison die

The two inmates of the Lusignan Prison, East Coast of Demerara, who were shot on Saturday afternoon by Prison Officers during an unrest at the facility, have died.
While Police Public Relations Officer, Royston Junor Andries, had earlier today said that the injuries were not life threatening, he confirmed just after 18:30h that the inmates have died. This newspaper was told that several prisoners were also injured during the unrest.
Only earlier this week, a disturbance erupted at the ECD facility after two inmates were tested positive for the novel coronavirus.
This newspaper was told that on Saturday, the prisoners were refusing to accept meals while demanding to meet with health officials.
